October 14-16, 2011

Our team returns to Carmel! Six of us entered the Spanish Bay USPTA Team Tennis Tournament. Leslie Swartz, Vickie Dowd, Paula Griffin, Regan Moore, Kathy Davis and I represented Sacramento! We played three matches on Saturday against teams from San Francisco, Fresno and Novato. I partnered with Leslie, Kathy with Paula, Regan with Vickie. We won 8 out of 9 matches and made it to finals. We played a team from Concord and won all three lines! The photo to the left is the team with their Champion plaques! We also won tickets to the Bank of the West Tournament held at Stanford in July!

The weekend was practically perfect. We had homecooked meals around the firepit and kitchen table. We went for walks in complete darkness (all of Pacific Grove suffered a 5 hour power outage Friday night) and just chatted. We found a cute boutique and enjoyed the sunshine. We all got along so well - it was very familiar! It was a great girls weekend!

A highlight (besides playing some great tennis) was running to the golf course from the tennis complex after we learned we were the Champions. After having played three full matches that day, we must have been quite a sight! A herd of women wearing zebra skirts running with heavy feet to hear the famed bagpiper on the golf course. We got there in time to hear him play Amazing Grace! The sounds just echo off the ocean and rocks. The golf greens were vivid, and the water..... Stellarly blue waters. It was a remarkable experience and view!

Sunday, before we left, we had omlettes in Monterey and then walked a bit along the wharf.
